Myofascial Release does exactly what it says on the tin. 'Myo' means muscle, 'fascia' is the connective tissue that surrounds our muscle, muscle fibres, all our organs - it basically connects everything to everything in a three-dimensional web and 'release' is to relax and let go.
What we often refer to as knots in muscles are more like stuck, injured or overused areas of fascia. These areas of restrictions can be local or can spread throughout the web across the body causing pain and problems you might not have thought were linked to each other. By working gently to encourage and give space to fascia to release, it will allow the muscle fibres and tissue it encompasses to move freely and function without pain. Without adding painful pressure, as used in some more well known sports massage techniques, Myofascial Release works deeply into the body to ease pain, allow the body the realign and increase mobility in muscles and joints.
