Frequently Asked Questions

Does Manual Lymphatic Drainage hurt?

No it does not. It is gentle, relaxing and pain free.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage or MLD for short is a specific types of massage that stimulates the flow of fluid within the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is responsible for fluid balance in the body and for immunity. MLD targets lymphatic vessels and gently pulses and guides fluid through the vessels. It can be a treatment to cleanse and support the immune system or aid in the treatment of conditions such as Lymphoedema and Lipoedema.

Does Manual Lymphatic Drainage really help after liposuction?

Yes it does. Liposuction causes a lot of swelling which can be painful, uncomfortable and slow down healing. Having regular Manual Lymphatic Drainage treatments after your surgery will help to reduce your pain, quicken recovery and improve your results.

How soon after Liposuction or a Tummy Tuck can I receive Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Straight away. Because MLD is so gentle, you can and should receive treatment in the first few days following surgery.

How many Manual Lymphatic Drainage treatments do I need after liposuction or Tummy Tuck?

I recommend having at least 10-15 treatments in the 3 months following a surgery. They should be more frequent, 2-3 a week in the first 2 weeks post op and then depending on your recovery slowly reducing in frequency until your swelling is gone and the is no residual fibrosis.
